In 2025, 38,081 existing businesses moved their head office locations within Switzerland. 80.8% of all changes of domicile occurred within the same Canton, while 7,517 businesses moved to a different Canton.
Zug reports the highest net level of inward relocation
The highest level of net inward movement from other Cantons was reported by the Canton of Zug (at 68 businesses), followed by Solothurn (67) and Graubünden (66). The net inward relocation figure is calculated from all the businesses relocations in and out of a Canton.
The Canton of Zug mainly benefited from inward relocations from the Cantons of Zurich (362), Lucerne (117) and Schwyz (76). The Canton of Solothurn mainly attracted companies from the Cantons of Bern (75), Aargau (45) and Zurich (38). The Canton of Graubünden gained most companies from the Cantons of Ticino (66), Zurich (56) and Zug (27).
Zurich had the largest net flow of outward relocations
The highest net outward relocation figures were registered by the Canton of Zurich, at -252 businesses. Other Cantons reporting a high net outflow level are Bern (-117), Obwalden (-55) and Appenzell Ausserrhoden (-52). Most of the businesses relocating out of the Canton of Zurich moved their headquarters to the Cantons of Zug (362), Aargau (225) and Schwyz (185). From the Canton of Bern, most relocating companies moved to the Cantons of Solothurn (75), Zurich (63) and Zug (50).
Ticino
A net figure of 53 new businesses moved into the Canton of Ticino in 2025. Most of the relocations came from the Cantons of Graubünden (39), Zurich (33) and Zug (32).
French-speaking Switzerland
The Cantons of Valais (62), Freiburg (38) and Jura (9) reported a net inward movement of businesses, while the Cantons of Geneva (-29), Vaud (-10) and Neuchâtel (-3) registered a net outflow of company relocations.

We have taken into consideration all those businesses entered into the commercial register that relocated their head offices within Switzerland in 2025.
